Reflection for Thematic Oil Painting
1. Evaluate: What are the good/strong parts of your painting? What is done well? Why?
I thought the good parts were the shading on the lake because it turned out the way I wanted it to. So it looks like a lake.
2. Evaluate: What do you think you could have done better on this project? Why?
I wanted to add something to the painting because, it seems empty to me, but maybe thats just me.
3. Analyze the attributes of yout theme/untiy: What is the theme that you created and how did you do so? Why did you choose that theme?
I created more of a calm theme because I haven't created a calm theme yet, and I thought it would be a nice picture.
4. Analyze your use of emphasis: What parts of your painting stand out most to you? How did you get those areas to stand out or be dominant?
I thought the lighter parts (one highlighted my the moon) were stading out because, It. Was? You can't really miss it.
5. Analyze your use of movement: How do your eyse move around the painting to the different points of emphasis? What do you notice first, second, and third? Predict the order that you think others will view the different points of emphasis.
I think they will probably see the moon first, because it is white against a black background. Then they may see the lake and the moon's reflection because that is the second brightest, then the green areas.
6. Metacognate (think about thinking): What did you learn from this project that you could apply to other projects in the future? What lesson could be applied to life in general?
That you have to start with a main background and build you way up or else it will turn out bad in the end. A lesson you can apply this to in real life because if you don't start with the main base of a building, it will never be built correctly.
7. Evaluate the design of your painting: Why did you do it the way you did? Was it planned? Was it by chance? Did it turn out the way you wanted it to? Why or why not?
I did it this way because it is with oils, and it makes it a whole lot easier because if you dont start with a main background it will never turn out right. It was by chance because I never thought it would turn out the way it did.
8. Evaluate the project: Is this a worthwhile project? What do you think about using this material? What should Mr. Purdy do differently next year?
Less speeches, I liked using oils, and overall, it was a very good project that they should do next year.
